On March 21st, as the world celebrated International Poetry Day alongside the arrival of spring, I found myself reflecting on the enduring relevance and evolving nature of poetry.
In a quest for insight, I turned to friends, posing a simple yet profound question: If poetry were a person, how would you describe its current state of health and vitality?

The responses I received were as diverse as they were illuminating. One friend likened poetry to a resilient survivor, scarred by past tribulations but gradually finding its footing once more. Another painted a picture of poetry as an unassuming individual, quietly navigating the routines of daily life, while the essence of the poem itself remained a mysterious and sporadic presence.
Poetry would be an ordinary person, who takes the bus, has a normal job, doesn’t have anything extraordinary in life, with whom I’ve already spoken several times, and continues to live her life, her daily life normally. There’s another person, who is the poem, and I’ve met them sporadically, I don’t know them well and I don’t know how they are.

In today’s digital age, poetry is more accessible than ever. Yet, amid the vast sea of verses that flood our screens, there is a palpable sense that poetry has lost some of its depth and resonance. The simplistic rhymes and clichés that proliferate on social media often lack the intellectual and emotional depth of poetry from eras past.

However, before resigning poetry to the annals of history, it is essential to remember its intrinsic value and timeless allure. At its core, poetry is a conduit for human experience, expressing complex emotions and profound truths in verses that resonate with the very essence of our being. It speaks a language that transcends the boundaries of time and space, offering solace, inspiration, and introspection in equal measure.

I remember last spring, I left some random poems in public places just to see what would happen. Armed with pen and paper, I left behind random poems for passersby to discover. Whether these verses were noticed or appreciated is inconsequential, the act itself was a testament to the generosity of poetry.

So, how do we breathe new life into poetry in an era dominated by fleeting attention spans and instant gratification? The answer lies not in pandering to trends or seeking validation through likes and shares but in reconnecting with the timeless wisdom of the classics. By immersing ourselves in the works of past masters, we gain a deeper understanding of why poetry has endured through the ages and why it remains as relevant today as ever before.

In essence, poetry is more than just words on a page. It is a mirror that reflects the human condition, a beacon that guides us through the depths of our emotions and experiences. So, the next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from the world around you, take a moment to immerse yourself in a poem. You may be surprised by the depth of insight and inspiration you discover within its verses.
